SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS
COLLECT SPECIMEN FOR RECEIPT IN LAB DAY OF COLLECTION BY 16:30 P.M.
DO NOT COLLECT BEFORE 10:00 A.M if possible.

Special Instructions:
1.
Immediately invert tube gently 8-10 times after collection to ensure proper mixing of blood and anticoagulant (this will avoid specimen clotting). Do not overfill tube
2.
Send to lab promptly, keeping specimen at room temperature.
3.
Complete a "Cincinnati Children's DIL test requisition form" and send with specimen.

Lab Processing instructions:
Send whole blood (DO NOT SPIN) Monday-Thursday ONLY. Keeping specimen at ambient temperature. 
If specimen is collected Friday-Sunday OR before 10 am any day, see notes below for processing instructions since whole blood will be unacceptable to be sent

Notes:
Send a completed "CCH DIL - Test requisition" form with specimen.
Specimens need to be received at CCH within 24 hours of collection (make sure specimen was not collected before 10:00 am as specimens will not be received at CCH before 1000 am the next day).
Ship specimens Monday-Thursday ONLY, marking on outside of shipping box "Store at Room Temperature - DO NOT Refrigerate" and "Deliver Promptly Upon Arrival".
if specimen collected friday-sunday or prior to 1000 am any day, spin and aliquot plasma into two 5-mL screw-cap plastic vials for transport (or one vial if only 0.5 mL plasma available). Place aliquot vial in dry ice to freeze immediately. Specimen must be kept frozen until able to ship and than shipped frozen on dry ice.
Call or fax CBDI lab @ (513-636-4685/513-636-3861) to inform them specimen being shipped and provide tracking number.
